Paralympian Jonnie Peackock stunned viewers and judges alike with his jive – and not only did the double gold medalist perform an energetic and technically sound jive he did it all while dancing on a brand new blade.
Jonnie lost his right leg after contracting meningitis at the age of five and doctors were forced to amputate but that hasn’t stopped the 24-year-old from taking on the BBC One dancing competition, and one Saturday night the judges heaped praise on the athlete for his routine to Johnny B Goode by Chuck Berry.
‘You might have thought it was tough on your blade but your kicks and flips were outstanding, it was fantastic,’ head judge Shirley Ballas said.
While Bruno, as always, couldn’t contain his enthusiasm: ‘If it looks good, it feels good, and trust me – you’re good.’
Jonnie revealed that he had bought a special blade for the competition and although he found it tough he was determined to push through. Both him and his dancing partner Oti Mabuse were dressed in cowboy costumes as they danced to the classic song.
Oti later tweeted: ‘I have no words for other than @JonniePeacock YOU ARE MY HERO!’ She wasn’t the only one in awe of Jonnie, with comedian Alex Brooker taking to Twitter to exclaim ‘that was incredible’ while fellow The Last Leg host Adam Hills also tweeted his praise. ‘I’ve never been prouder of anymore more than @JonniePeacock after that dance,’ he wrote.
We just can’t wait to see what Jonnie does next week.
